Gotlandia

Gotlandia is a boardgame for 2-5 players that plays in two hours. This is the print-and-play edition which is free. Some assembly required.

Game mechanics: Deck building, worker placement, area control.

In Gotlandia you take on the role as families on the island of Gotland competing for power and prestige through trade, piracy, and overly embellished churches. 

The historical context of the game is the period 1100-1400 where Gotland as an independent island prospered on the trade in the Baltic Sea leading to the creation of magnificent churches across the island. The game ends when Gotland looses its independence after the Black Plague sweeps the island.
